The TinyBrains team joins the Magic Line solidarity campaign

The Magic Line initiative is a solidarity initiative organized annually by the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu to fundraise money for social causes related to the hospitals’ activity. The campaign is made by different teams that commit to taking action to raise donations for the most vulnerable people. Any institution, company, association or group of people can constitute a team and set their donation goal.

The TinyBrains team joined this year’s mobilization by organizing a solidarity Bake Sale at ICFO and a Light for Health Chat, open to anyone interested. Several ICFOnians participated by bringing baked cakes and cookies that were exchanged for voluntary contributions.

Later, TinyBrains coordinator Prof. Turgut Durduran gave an open seminar discussing how non-invasive photonic technologies fit into clinical environments and explained some of the devices that the Medical Optics group is developing. The session ended with an open Q&A session.

The team surpassed the original goal by contributing an amount of 651€ to the initiative’s outcome, which fundraised 400.000 euros that will fund several social and sanitary projects. On Sunday 17th, the team joined more than 15.000 people in the final march across Barcelona, which ended with a festive lunch in the Plaça de la Catedral.
